Tragedy struck yesterday in Ogun State as eleven undergraduate students of the popular Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and a driver lost their lives in an auto-crash along Sagamu/Benin expressway.
The accident, which happened at Ilisan in Remo North Local Government axis of the expressway, threw the whole area, the University community and the state at large into mourning.
Nigerian Pilot Saturday gathered that the incident happened during an head-on collision between a truck and a Mazda bus conveying the students from Ijebu Area to Lagos.
It was gathered that the DAV Truck with Registration Number Lagos, BDG 779 XE, drove against the traffic rule and faced the oncoming Mazda bus with registration number, XV 311 MUS killing all its occupants except one.
An eyewitness, Tommy Hamzat, an officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE who claimed to be at the scene of the accident told our Journalists that the truck driver drove against the traffic and unknowingly for the bus driver collided with the truck and killed all occupants including the bus driver.
He said, “I was coming from Sagamu side and saw the accident, I have to hurriedly parked my car, ran there to see if the passengers could be rescued but unfortunately all the occupants were dead including the driver.
