…Tourney tees off on Saturday

The 9th edition of the 2015 Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor’s Cup will tee-off on Saturday at the IBB International Golf and Country Club with 150 golfer expected to battle for honours.
The annual golf tournament according to the head of internal communication at the apex bank, Mr. Martins Ogwuda is to create a relaxed and recreational atmosphere for eminent personalities in government, the organized private sector, elder statesmen as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
Ogwuda said, “This annual tournament also creates a platform for interaction and gingering a spirit of friendship among competing golfers as well as facilitating the consolidation of network partnerships. This beautiful game of golf is a comprehensive exercise that brings about the enhancement of the physiological, mental and emotional well- being of players and an antidote for stress.’’
The one- day tournament which will tee-off 7am as many trophies. Prizes would be won in various categories.
Ogwuda said that the categories include Men’s Handicap 0-14, Men’s Handicap 15-28 and Gross (Men).
The Ladies categories include, Ladies Handicap 20, Ladies Handicap 21-36, CBN staff category and CBN pensioners’ category.
‘’Others includes, Veterans’ category for Men and Ladies, auxiliary prize for Nearest to Pin and Longest Drive for Ladies, Men and CBN Staff, The and the overall winner carts away the best nett prize.’’
Ogwuda said the format that will be adopted for this year’s tournament is known within golfers’ circles as the stroke play and under the format, the net score is arrived at after deducting each player’s handicap from his gross score.
CBN also sponsor Junior Tennis Championship, Senior Open Tennis Championship and All Financial Institutions Football Competition as part of the apex bank’s corporate responsibilities to the country.
Captain of the IBB International Golf and country club, Hamid Abbo said golf is a game of gentle men and ladies that does not accommodate the use of drugs.
‘’Doping has no place in the game of golf as those who would want to be involve will not be able to play.’’
