Two persons have been feared killed and 20 cows burnt to death yesterday in two vehicles conveying them in an attack launched on the vehicles in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A witness, Mallam Dauda Adams, said the attackers injured seven other persons in the affected vehicles.
Adams said, “It is a major concern that there has been this killing of people and burning of cattle in vehicles carrying them to Abuja.
The victims were people who visited Jos from Kaduna and bought animals at Bukuru Cattle Market, only for them to be attacked few hours later in Hawan Kibo.”
Adams, who is the Vice Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of Cattle Traders Association of Nigeria, said the attackers blocked the main road, shooting sporadically, killing two passengers instantly, injuring some others, and setting the two vehicles on fire with the cows in them.
“We reported the incident to Plateau State Police Command and the Commissioner of Police (CP Nasiru Oki) directed the DPO in charge of Bukuru Division to go to the scene of the attack. We got there and saw the two vehicles burning with the animals inside,” Alhaji Dauda said, calling on the state and federal governments “to ensure that the safety of our members is very important.”
