An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded two men, Tunde Hassan, 30, and Tope Akinyemi, 18, in Kririkiri Prisons pending their sentencing for theft.
The Magistrate, Mrs. B.Y. Badejo Okusanya, remanded the duo after they pleaded guilty to a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
Okusanya adjourned the case till Jan. 20, for facts and sentencing.
Hassan, who gave no fixed address, claimed to be an NURTW official while Akinyemi resides at No. 12, Ogo-oluwa St., Modupe, Ogba, Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Mr Joe Egbo, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 23, 2015, at about 3.00a.m., at No.1, Taiwo Close, off Thomas Salako Street, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that the accused burgled the house of one Adeola Adeoye and stole his Samsung phone valued N14, 000 and N14, 500 in cash.
Egbo said the offences contravened Sections 285, 306, 307 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the penalty for such stealing is three years imprisonment. (NAN)
