Two suspects, Arinze Asomnanya, male and Ifeadikachi Mbama Onyeakwu, female have been arraigned before the Federal High Court, Umuahia, Abia State, by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration ,NAFDAC, for distributing and selling fake products to the public.
The suspects were arraigned on a three- count charge of distributing and selling fake powdered detergent not registered with the agency.
The count accused the suspects of distributing fake detergent, Renew Cold Water Starch without registration and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 [1] of the Food, Drugs and Related products [Registration etc] Act Cap F 33, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 6 [1][a] of the same Act.
While the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges, their lawyers applied for their bail under favourable condition.
The bail application was however not opposed by NAFDAC lawyer, Adumen Jumbo Washington.
The presiding Judge, Justice Folashade-Adejokee Olubanjo granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with sureties and ordered that they be remanded in prison custody until the bail conditions were perfected and adjourned the matter to October for definite trial.
