About 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other political parties, at the weekend, defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Apart from the defectors, the party also officially admitted over 500 new members into its fold including a retired Deputy Controller-General of Customs, Mr. Tony Mbah.
Receiving the decampee/new members at Isi-Uzo Local Government secretariat of the APC, the state Chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, lauded them for their courage and wise decision, stressing that the APC remains an ideal political platform for progressives.
While assuring all members of equal opportunities at all times, Nwoye emphasised that the party would continue to make internal democracy and discipline its watch word, especially under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The chairman, who was accompanied by the South-East Publicity Secretary, Hycienth Ngwu, and other stakeholders, commended the Isi- Uzo Chairman of the party, Engr. Titus Nnamani, for his aggressive mobilisation and marketing of the APC in the local government area.
He, however, urged the people to keep faith with the Buhari-led administration, adding that the party will not fail Nigerians. He noted that the federal government is working tirelessly towards ameliorating the present economic hardship being faced by citizens.
“Today, our great party has an appointment with history in Isi-Uzo, all progressives from the 11 political wards have gathered to join forces and bring the desired change in this area. Today, we have progressives from PDP, PDC, APGA and others joining hands with those from APC with one purpose in mind and that is to uplift the people of Isi-Uzo, so we celebrate you for standing up to be counted as progressives, even when it is not fashionable to be so identified.”
Speaking at the occasion, Mbah told APC leaders that he decided to pitch tent with the party because of its change mantra and credibility of President Buhari.
He said he is pleased to identify with the party and called on other progressives in the locality, state and country in general to embrace the party.
