Outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan has been commended for saving the country from political crisis with his statesmanly acceptance of defeat in the recently held presidential election.
Rev. Samuel Akpan-Isong, president of Independent Ministers Convention stated this yesterday while speaking to journalists in Asaba, Delta State
According to the presiding minister of Champions for Christ Chapel, Asaba, Jonathan exhibited high level of maturity, which showed that Nigerians could embrace democratic culture.
He advised politicians across the country to emulate the leadership quality exhibited by the outgoing president.
He said: “Failure in any exercise is not the end of everything; there are still better days ahead, and I urge His Excellency, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, to continue to live his Life; he has served the country well, and by now he is already an elder statesman.”
The cleric stated that for joy, peace and friendship to be sustained in the country and enhance a stable polity in the country, electoral contestants should always see the exercise as a no “victor no vanquished” situation but to carry everybody along irrespective of political and religious inclinations.
He advised President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to fulfil all his electoral promises to justify his long quest for the presidency.
He condemned the xenophobic act perpetrated by South Africans against fellow Africans who he said their governments in the past fought against apartheid of which the Zulus are major beneficiary.
