Eighty year old man, Mr. Enebeli Pius Chuka, yesterday, made history as the oldest lawyer ever produced by the Nigerian Law School as he was among 2, 218 candidates that were successful at the April 2016 Bar Final examinations
He was called to Bar yesterday alongside one of the daughters of President Muhammadu Buhari, Halima who also graduated from the Law School.
Among dignitaries that attended the Call to Bar ceremony held at the International Conference Center, ICC, included President Buhari’s wife, Aisha.
Equally admitted into the legal profession by the Nigerian Body of Benchers were 41 candidates from previous Bar Final examinations.
The April 2016 examinations that produced the new wigs were undertaken by resit students who spent additional two months at the Law School.
According to the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Mr. O.A. Onadeko, the new lawyers were subjected to compulsory intensive revision exercise, saying “their performance at the examinations vindicated the decision because the success rate was 73 per cent”.
Onadeko said: “Of note is the impressive performance of some candidates, with one attaining the level just short of the First Class grade. It is our hope that the level of performance at future examinations will continue to be good.
“Let me also congratulate one of the new wigs of today, who is making history in his own right, by being the oldest new wig ever produced by the
Nigerian Law School. He is 80 years old and we wish him a very successful career at the Bar”.
While enjoining the new wigs to adhere strictly to the norms and ethics of the legal profession, the Law School DG said they must ensure that they are far above the minimum in all they do.
“I advise you to always aim at the top level in all your endeavours”, Onadeko added.
In his address, Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Mr. Bandele Aiku, while congratulating the new lawyers, urged them to always show respect to the

lawyer are officers of the court- one is to adjudicate, the other to assist in arriving at a just solution.
Partners, they are in the temple of justice. That temple is the court where they all function “I welcome you, my learned friends to the privileges of the Bar. It must however be noted that the path to professional excellence at the Bar is long, tortuous, rough and bumpy”, Aiku stated.
Meanwhile, some of the new wigs who spoke to Nigerian pilot shortly after the ceremony which was held in two batches, said they were happy to have been administered oath alongside President Buhari’s daughter.
One of the new wigs, Alaukwu Nwakanma Anosike said: “I feel so delighted that not only was I found worthy to be admitted into the Bar today, taking the oath alongside President Buhari’s daughter and the 80 years old man that just created a new record, made the ceremony more memorable for me”.
