Top scorer of the 2015 Federation Cup, Ubong Friday, says he is already setting sights on sustaining the Cup momentum in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Friday who scored six times in the competition, to emerge winner of the gong, has been one of the consistent marksman of the Uyo based side, scoring eight and providing fifteen assist in all competition in the just concluded season for Baraje’s team.
Friday, argued that, the tempo which saw Akwa United break a 56 year old trophy-less streak, can be sustained in the continent.
“I believe we can sustain this momentum in the continent. It was crucial for us to get the win on Sunday. Lobi is a difficult side to contain, but we knew what was at stake and gave out everything.
“We understand that the continental stage is a different scenario entirely, but we will be ready for it. There has been massive improvement in the team and we have showed more strength and character in the past week.” He said.
Friday joined Akwa United from lower league side and city rivals, Akwa Starlets FC and was courted as ideal replacement for Ezekiel Bassey and Ubon Ekpai, who both left the promise keepers’ for Enyimba and Kano Pillars respectively.
Akwa United won their first major trophy in the country, after a convincing 2-1 win against Lobi Stars of Makurdi, in the final of the 2015 Federation Cup played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Sunday.
