Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists, SONTA, has called for entries from Nigerian creative writers domiciled within and outside Nigeria for the first SONTA Creative Writing and Music Composition Competition.
According to the statement signed by the President, SONTA, Prof. Sunday E. Ododo, fsonta the competition is opened for published and unpublished works.
The prizes are, for now, endowed by Prof. Olu Obafemi and Dr. Chris Iyimoga to encourage creative writing in the performing arts and shall be awarded to the author of the best creative work in each of the categories.
This being an annual competition, the copyright on published works submitted must be two years to the competing year of entry. For example, published works competing for the Master Playwright prize in 2015 cannot be copyrighted earlier than 2013. Entry works should be submitted to the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists, the host and administrator of the prize, on or before February 26th, 2016.
Seven copies of the play texts/manuscripts being entered for the competition are to be submitted by the authors and their electronic copies, if available.
A panel of three judges shall be appointed by the SONTA executive body to assess all the submitted works. They shall be respected performing artists, theatre practitioners, dance librettists, musicologists and dramatists/playwrights, known for their objectivity, broad knowledge of the performing arts mechanics.

An author is entitled to make only one entry under each category, except under SONTA-CHRIS IYIMOGA ART MUSIC PRIZE where a composer may make two entries or less. Any work that has previously won any other competitive award cannot be entered. Officers of SONTA Executive body are not eligible to compete. Failure to meet the stipulated conditions will lead to the disqualification of the entry.
Entries are needed for the following creative writing and music composition competitions: SONTA- Olu Obafemi prize for playwriting – Prize Worth: N100,000.00, SONTA-Chris Iyimoga master playwright prize – Prize Worth: N300,000.00, SONTA-Chris Iyimoga dance libretto prize – Prize Worth: N200,000.00, SONTA-Chris Iyimoga art music prize – Prize Worth: N200,000.00
