Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chairmen in 27 local government councils of Borno state have endorsed the appointment of former governor of the state , Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as National Chairman of the party.
Declaring their solidarity at a press briefing read by the state secretary of PDP, Usman Mahdi Badari, the chairmen said the choice of Sheriff is a right move in the right direction for the party as according to them, with his experience and capability, Sheriff will turn around the political fortunes of the PDP.
Usman Badari said that the recent criticism trailing his appointment from the opposition shows that they are afraid of him (Sheriff) because of his his capacity to turn the fortunes of the party for the bertter.
He said, the All Progressives Congress, APC is already jittery, explaining that it is for the same reason the party goes around with press conferences to smear the image of the former governor and rubbish his political image.
“They have been doing so, accusing him of all sorts of crimes but none of them could prove any wrong they allegedly said he committed. From the briefing of the Kano state governor one can deduce clearly the fears of APC, knowing that with Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in position to direct PDP come 2019, APC’s chances are very slim in all elections,” the chairmen said.
Speaking on the position of some PDP stakeholders who appear also to be uneasy, following the appointment of Sheriff, the state secretary said,” they have been the clog on the wheel of progress for the party since 1999 and they know very well that Sheriff is not going to work with such people, a situation which also exposes their fears.”
