Three persons were killed, while three others sustained injuries, following a shootout between the Black Axe cult group and residents of Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Saturday night.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the cult group tried to force residents out of their homes.
Two of the deceased, Donald Kaaungwa and Myon Usha, were shot dead at Welfare Quarters, while the third person, one Fred who was shot on the leg was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
That same night at about 9:30pm, unknown gunmen attacked a Popular Wine Bar known as Balcony located on Abu King Shuluwa Road killing one Aondofa Amokaha, while the Regional Fiber Head of Glo, Vikrham Neggi, was shot on the head and another person whose name was given as Fred was also shot on the leg.
The deputy police spokesman, Mathew Oku, who confirmed the incidents, said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
