Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kaduna State command, has arrested four petrol tankers for alleged illegal diversion of about 148,000 litres of petrol.
Parading the suspects before reporters yesterday at the command headquarters in Kaduna, the state commandant, Alhaji Modu Bunu attributed the success to information received on the plans by vandals to perpetrate the crime in the state over the weekend.
Bunu explained that “on receipt of the information, the command quickly mobilised operatives to strategic locations, leading to the arrest at about 24:15 hours.
“A breakdown of the vehicles and the contents shows that the tanker with registration number KAF 662 ZA contains 30,000 litres, DKA 515 ZP is with 40,000 litres and the third one with registration number BAU 262 XR is containing 45,000 litres which are suspected to have been diverted.
“It is also amazing to state here that the remaining truck, a DAF 85, is without registration number and was conveying 33,000 litres of PMS suspected to be vandalised products. The apprehensive occupants of the DAF on sighting operatives of the NSCDC abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels.
“I want to commend the synergy between the corps and other security agencies, but I implore members of the public to also collaborate with the corps by reporting timely to us in the fight against vandalism and other forms of crime.
“We are determined to carry out our statutory mandates but without the cooperation of the public the command may not achieve all we want,” Bunu stated.
