Men suspected to be armed robbers struck in a new generation bank in Ogaminana in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing four people and carting away the sum of N25million from the bank.
According to an eye witness, the bandits stormed the bank around 10 am and shot themselves through into its strong room, carting the said amount reportedly meant for payment of workers in the council.
Nigerian Pilot learnt that, in the shootout and melee that followed, two policemen and two staff of the bank lost their life before they got access to the money in the bank.
The arrival of the bandits in the said bank caused panic in the areas as passers-by and street hawkers were thrown into confusion, as the hoodlums shot sporadically into the air to scare people away and zoomed off to an unknown destination with their loot, after the operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ACP Williams Aya, confirmed the incident, saying no arrest has been made yet.
The PPRO assured that the command would fish out the hoodlums in no time, and be made to face the wrath of the law, disclosing that necessary action to that effect had been taken in that direction.
