No fewer than five persons and three trailers were burnt beyond recognition when two trailers had head-on collision in Mowe/Ibafo axis of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday night.
It was gathered that the accident happened few kilometres away from the popular Danco filling station along the axis in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Nigerian Pilot further gathered that a trailer broke down by the road side which caused serious traffic congestion along the axis.
It was reported that another trailer laden with Premium Motor Spirit popularly called petrol enroute Sagamu from Lagos drove against traffic, facing oncoming vehicles to maneuver his way through the traffic holdup around the area.
Sources at the area further told our correspondent that a third trailer laden with granite enroute Lagos from Abeokuta had head-on collision which reportedly resulted in a very big inferno at the sight.
The five persons who were suspected to be occupants of the trailers, including drivers and motor boys, reportedly died on the spot as there was no help because of the inferno.
The public relation officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Babtunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident to our correspondent on telephone.
The PRO explained that officers of the corps were on ground immediately it got news of the incident to manage the traffic situation around the area.
He explained that the victims’ remains had been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu, adding that they could not get the registration numbers of any of the affected trailers.
