Tragedy, again struck in the notorious Onipepeye village along the Abeokuta-Siun expressway of Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State when a multiple accident claimed five lives including a toddler early yesterday morning.
Seven others reportedly had various degrees of injuries on the road known for serial autocrahes.
It was gathered that the accident involved two commercial vehicles with 13 occupants in total.
The first vehicle, a Nissan Sunny with registration number Lagos, LSD 770 BZ was reportedly enroute Sagamu for a wedding ceremony when it had an head-on collision with Mitsubishi space wagon with registration number Lagos, GGE 950 CQ enroute Abeokuta.
Two people immediately lost their lives at the scene while three others lost their lives on the way to the hospital.
One lucky survivor, who spoke with Journalists at the scene, reported that the Premiera car was heading to Sagamu from Abeokuta, when the driver suddenly lost control and swerved to the other side of the dual carriage road, and had head-on collision with the oncoming Space wagon car, heading to Abeokuta from Lagos.
The team of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE got to the scene early enough and was seen evacuating the victims, who were rushed to the hospital.
The Public Relations Officer of the Agency, Babtunde Akinbiyi who spoke with our correspondent in a telephone interview explained that three other persons lost their lives on their way to the hospital.
He explained that those who were injured have been taken to the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta and Federal Medical Center, FMC in Idi-Aba while the remains of the dead were also deposited at the morgue of the two hospitals.
