Kogi West Women in collaboration with Otorhinolaryngolical Society of Nigeria and The Redeemed Christian Church of God, London, has organised a free medical outreach for over 5,000 women suffering from different ailments in the west Senatorial district of Kogi State.
The outreach programme covered those suffering from infections of the Ear, Nose, Throat and Eye, including the provision of maternity packs to some pregnant women.
Mrs Tokunbo Awoniyi, wife of the state deputy governor and facilitator of the outreach, disclosed this at the close of the outreach programme at Mopa Moro at the weekend, tasking women to always seek early medical attention since it was a panacea towards a healthy life.
At the close of a six-day free medical outreach held in Mopa, Yagba – East and West LGA of the state, Mrs Awoniyi described women as nation builders, stressing that their health and well being should be top priority to government and other stakeholders.
She described the free medical outreach as a program that offered free consultation and provided medical materials to women, saying it was aimed at complementing the quarterly free rural medical programme of the Kogi State government.
Mrs. Awoniyi, who appealed to women to always seek early medical attention to their health issues, described the increasing rate of high mortality in the society as very embarrassing, saying that it was being caused by poverty, ignorance and inability to access the right medical facilities.
While noting that when women are healthy, it enables them contribute positively to the socio – economic development of the society, she said the task of improving the health needs of women remained a collective responsibility that must be encouraged.
