A 52-year-old cobbler on Tuesday found hanged in his room in Lafe Area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The deceased, identified as Tope Ogunmodede, was suspected to have taken his olife because of frustration arising from a recurring mental illness he has been suffering since 1983.
Tope was said to have fixed an appointment with his doctor on Thursday last week for medical check-up but was postponed till tomorrow, Monday due to the public holiday.
Speaking with Nigerian Pilot Sunday, the mother of the deceased, Madam Comfort, said she went to attend to an appointment on that fateful day in Akure, and expected the deceased to welcomed her on her return, but he was nowhere to be found.
This, she said, prompted her to look for him in his room where she found him dangling from a rope.
A relation of the deceased, simply identified as Bose, said the mother of the deceased had spent a lot of money on his mental illness.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP WoleOgodo who confirmed the incident, said detectives visited the scene, where photographs of the deceased’s corpse were taken.
Ogodo, who did not suspect any foul play, said the corpse has been deposited at the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital in Akure.
