At least seven persons were reportedly killed in a fatal auto crash that occurred on Ibadan-Ogbomoso road yesterday.
Several others were said to have sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident.
According to an eyewitness whose first name is Tayo, “the casualty figure in the accident was high. When I got to the accident scene some moments after it occurred, I saw people assisting the victims.”
“The accident happened when an Ilorin-bound commercial bus overtook a Sport Utility Vehicle, SUV and tried to manoeuvre its way back into its lane but failed.
“The driver of the SUV increased his speed, making it difficult for the commercial bus to join the lane.
“When the driver of the SUV increased his speed, there was an articulated truck coming from Ilorin. The driver of the truck saw the commercial bus and applied its brakes. The impact of the brake was so much that the truck kept moving and with the high speed the commercial bus driver, who was coming from Lagos, could not control the bus and collided with the truck. Six persons died on the spot while another victim died on the way to the hospital. Only the driver of the bus survived the accident,”‎ the eyewitness, Tayo stated.
It was gathered that the accident delayed motorists plying the road for more than 30minutes.
As at the time of filing this report, security agents were said to have towed the mangled vehicles off the road.
When Nigerian Pilot contacted the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, ‎he said he would contact their men in Oyo town and Ogbomoso for verification.
