Eighty-one patients have so far benefitted from the free medical outreach programme sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, under the Doctors on the Move Africa currently in Bauchi State.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Iliya Habila yesterday, the Doctors have successfully operated patients with cataracts, hernia, fibroids, glitter and other diseases.
A statement issued by Habila said that more than 70 cataract patients had been operated upon, while many others were supplied with medical glasses, even as about 100 others are waiting for cataract surgeries.
The Team leaders of the organisation, Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, said about 20 doctors and other health personnel from Bauchi State have joined the team of volunteers for the medical outreach because of the influx of patients within the state and its environs to the venue of the programme.
“The Programme was meant for patients from 20 Local Government areas of Bauchi State but many other patients have been trooping in from Nasarawa State and all other North Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe State and we have been attending to them”
Dr Haruna stated that more doctors and health personnel would be engaged in the state to meet the needs of the increasing number of patients seeking medical attention.
He enjoined patients and their relations to be patient assuring them that the team would make efforts to attend to them, saying they have provided services such as outpatients consultations and drugs, diabetes and hypertensive screening, provision of reading glasses and cataract operations.
Others are general major and minor surgeries such as lipomas, hernia, fibroids as well as ultra sound scanning, HIV/AIDs, hepatitis screening and public health enlightenment.
He commended the initiator of the program, speaker House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara for assisting less poor people of the state.
