Nine persons have reportedly been killed in a gun battle between Nigerian military troops and Boko Haram terrorists in some villages in Yobe State.
According to reports, the 9 persons were killed in Dunbulwa and Kada-gara villages, Fika Local government Area in the state, when the terrorists attacked the villages around 10:00pm last Monday, setting ablaze houses and shooting sporadically.
A resident in Kadan-Gana village said the assailants rode to the village on 10 motorcycles and unleashed terror throughout the night.
“Each of the motorcycles was carrying three people, they burnt our houses and killed nine people. Some of the militants came with explosives, attacking people on sight,” he said.
Similarly, in Dunbulwa village, the terrorists burnt down the house of the former Commissioner of Health and a serving special assistant to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam on Health, Dr. Bello Kawuwa.
“They burnt the house of former commissioner for health, Dr. Bello Kawuwa but nobody was killed, the militants tried to cross river Gunguru to attack Ngalda or Gadaka, but the bombs they were carrying in the canoe exploded with them” he said.
He further stated that Dunbulwa village was one of the regular routes of the Boko Haram militants and the attack was the first of its kind.
Residents revealed sighting Air force fighter Jet dropping explosives to certain locations in the bush around 9:30 am.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the insurgents launched an onslaught on Gadaka town over the night, in a bid to seize it, while soldiers responded yesterday morning to put up resistance.
