Barely two months to the kickoff of this year’s All Africa Games, AAG scheduled to take place in Congo DR, the National Sports Commission, NSC yesterday disclosed that no fewer than 31 hotel rooms have already been booked for athletes and officials in various hotel accommodations located in Brazzaville and Pointe Noire, the only two Cities where the country intends to host the games.
AAG is returning to Congo, 50 years on after the game was formerly launched in the tiny nation.
NSC Director General, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut who was part of Chef de Mission who went and inspected the facilities expected to host the competition confirmed that certain payments have already been made with the remaining soon be made to hotels where Nigerian contingents will be lodged.
Yakmut who had declared the commission’s readiness to give athletes adequate preparation revealed that 90% of athletes would be those discovered and are based in Nigeria.
Already, Nigeria have secured tickets to feature in four team games including football, basketball, volleyball and handball.
Wrestlers and weightlifters would be converging in High Performance Center, their camp venue to begin intensive training as from this weekend.
According to NSC DG, “We are already getting prepared for the big task ahead. Necessary machineries are being put in place to ensure our athletes produce sterling performance at the competition.
“No stone will be left unturned. We have again written to the government to assist us with funds to enable us intensify and conclude our plans.
“For athletics, their athletes have been preparing for AAG since January in various parts of the country. They have been attending various international and local competitions.”
