Ahead of Rio 2015 Olympic Games qualifier tie against Congo in July, dream Team VI , Coach Samson Siasia has dragged five players from the Flying Eagles squad that participated in the 2015 FIFA U20 world cup in New Zealand to strengthen team.
The National U20 team arrived the country on Monday from New Zealand where they failed to progressed pass the round of 16 losing 0-1 to Germany.
Coach Siasia told Nigerian Pilot Saturday that contact has already been made with the players and the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF who has given express approval that the players would released to beef up the U23 team.
The players include, Taiwo Awoniyi, Captain Musa Muhammed, Godwin Saviour and two others the coach could not give their names.
Siasia said the players have been given one week to rest following their return from New Zealand.
“We have spoken to them and we have asked them the rest for one week because they must be tiered after the U20 world cup and their long journey from New Zealand to Nigeria. Since we have one month left to the next qualifier games against Congo, we would be commencing work on real team because we do not want to experience what we suffered in Zambia where the players wasted lots of opportunity of scoring goals.
“Some of our players released for their clubs for the Premier League games would be coming back and would be joined be the Flying Eagles invitees and from there the real work will begin.’’
Siasia said the team presently face scoring problem and would want to correct it before the game against Congo.
“What we are doing now is to correct all the problem areas identified in the last game in Zambia because we created lot of chances but failed to score. We want to ensure that our strikers are precise in front of the goal post.’’
