Abducted caretaker committee chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Cassidy Ikegbidi and a female medical doctor, Dr. Uju Onatai, have regained freedom after two weeks of abduction.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that Cassidy, who was kidnapped on April 18 this year by unknown gunmen in his village, was released yesterday morning while Onatai regained freedom on Sunday evening.
Press secretary to the LG boss, Mr Blessed Oyaghiri, who confirmed his release to newsmen in Port Harcourt, stated that no ransom was paid to his abductors, adding that he was presently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.
Also, Dr. Onatai, who works as a physiotherapist at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, was said to have been freed with bullet wound on one of her legs.
The mother of two was kidnapped by gunmen on Monday, April 26, 2015, around 7:30pm in front of her house along East West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in the state capital.
A family source yesterday confirmed her release and the bullet wound, but could not state under what circumstance she was released.
As at the time of filing this report, the state police command was yet to make any statement with respect to the release of the duo.
