Abia state government has put a ban on multiple taxation and illegal collection of dues, levies and tolls in Aba and Umahia.
In a press statement signed by the chief press secretary to Abia state government, Mr. Godwin Adindu, the government said it has noticed that some agents are still collecting taxes against the government’s directives adding that only two tax agents have been recognised and mandated by the state to collect taxes on behalf of the government.
According to the statement the agencies to collect tax are Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme, ASPIMSS, and the Physical Planning Industrial Development Fund, PPIDF adding that the public should pay their taxes and dues to these agents.
The government urged individuals or agents, outside of the authorized government agencies, who are defying government orders to desist as it is unlawful and noted that security task-force will apprehend any defaulter and they will be punished according to the law.
While calling on residents to be careful, the government assured them that it is taking the issue of taxation and revenue collection with serious concern and will take firm and legitimate measures to bring order and decorum to the sector of economy.
