Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry, ACCI is to honour Dangote cement, Airtel Nigeria, and three others with the awards of excellence for their outstanding contribution to the growth of economy despite the dwindling economy in the country.
The President of the chamber, Mr. Tony Ejinkonye, who stated this at a press conference in Abuja said, the awards is aimed at supporting the federal government in its effort at diversifying the economy away from the non-oil sector with a view to promote the spirit of excellence in the business community.
According to him, “the 2016 awards is aimed at celebrating outstanding companies who have contributed to the growth of national economy despite the dwindling economy being experience as result of low oil prices”.
He said, “It is our desire to use the awards as an avenue to express the chambers support of the federal government’s drive to diversify the economy from the non- oil sector.
According to him, “the award is a platform that we used to encourage organizations to emulate the winners’ resilience and ability to face the predicted slowing economic growth not with despair but with renewed enthusiasm, powered by innovation and reinvigorated business ideas”.
Ejinkonye said after thorough research and comprehensive analysis from highly professional term of business experts and consultants nominated the awardees in the following category, the investor of the year, which had the highest deals and new investments made by the organization.
While the highest percentage corporate social responsibility to the society, based on key project that impacted positively without direct benefit to the donor organization.
He said the company that emerge the best outstanding in commerce had the highest volumes of sales/export of non oil products in the last five years, while the outstanding company industry had the highest profit after tax, new employment, dividend pay out to shareholders .The president said Airtel Nigeria which emerge the most outstanding innovative business idea had new products and services rolled out by an organization which facilitated economic activity in the country.
He said the chamber thought it wise to reward effort made by organizations who have distinguish themselves based on merit and national contribution to the economy.
The first among the categories includes, Olam Nigeria Ltd emerge the outstanding company of the year, commerce, Dangote Cement came second as the outstanding company of the year in industry, while the Nigeria LNG Ltd emerge the most outstanding organization to keep to the corporate social responsibility of the year.
Others includes , Airtel Nigeria winning the best award of the most innovative business idea with its recharge and hit a million promo advert and Helios Investment Partners and the Vitol Group emerged the investor of the year.
