The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged Nigerians to adhere to the virtues of tolerance, forgiveness and self-sacrifice as Nigerian Christians marked Good Friday prelude to Easter.
This is contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kaduna.
The statement signed by ACF National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, stressed the importance of the occasion in view of the commemoration and crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
It noted that Christians marked the occasion with prayers and fasting in keeping with the sacrifice made by Christ for the common good of mankind.
“The period also gives the Christians the opportunity to reflect on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ especially his tolerance, forgiveness and self sacrifice.”
It added that Nigerians should in the spirit of Good Friday exhibit good neighbourliness to one another as the action will go a long way in moving Nigeria forward.
The forum also advised leaders to encourage love, peaceful coexistence and commitment to the unity of Nigeria.
According to the ACF, injustice, corruption and other social vices are militating against the rapid development of Nigeria and that with the election of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as President the nation will witness a new dawn.
While commending the statesmanship of President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat at the earliest time, the organisation further appealed to Nigerians to support the president-elect in view of the tasks before him.
The statement stressed the need for Nigerians to intensify prayers and work hard towards a peaceful April 11 elections. (NAN)
