succeeded in killing three
notorious armed robbers that
have been terrorising parts of
North East and North Western
Nigeria and in the process
confiscating eight AK 47
rifles, one RPG, 477 round of
ammunitions as well as local
and foreign currencies.
Displaying the confiscated
weapons at Adamawa state
police headquarters Thursday,
the Public Relations Officer of
the command, DSP Othman
Abubakar said the feat of
routing the notorious kidnap
gang and the killing of the
robbers were attained with the
full cooperation of Ali Kwara.
He said that the two operations
were carried out in Mulang in
Song Local Government and
Mayo Belwa Local Government
of Adamawa state.
Othman noted that the
Nigerian Police is working
hand in hand with other sister
organizations to weed the
society of criminals urging
members of the communities to
assist the police with relevant
information that will assist in
curtailing crime and criminality.
During the event, the sum of
N500, 000 collected as ransom
by the kidnappers were handed
over to the father of the three
abducted children Alhaji Grema
Speaking to journalists shortly
after collecting the money,
Degereji thanked Ali Kwara
and Nigeria Police for rescuing
his three abducted children as
well as the monetary refund of
half million naira collected as
He noted that upon the
abduction of his two children, the
kidnappers called demanding
for two million but his family
was only able to raise N500, 000
before Ali Kwara came to the
scene and promptly organised
an undercover operation that
led to the arrest of the culprits
and confiscation of the ransom
Speaking to reporters, Alhaji
Ali Kwara decried the activities
of local vigilante groups
noting that most of the violent
crimes taking place are being
orchestrated by such repentant
“The person behind this
kidnap is a so called repentant
armed robber who hides under
the cloak of vigilante to continue
to perpetrate crime.
“I have been making attempt
over the years to catch up with
him but he dubiously hides
under the toga of the so called
vigilante group to be pointing
targets to criminal gangs,” he
He said that unless a serious
effort is put in curtailing the
activities of vigilante groups,
very soon, the country would be
taken over by criminals as most
of the operatives are hardened
criminals who hide under such
groups to continue with their
old acts.
