Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Adamawa State has vowed to offer formidable opposition to the incoming All Progressives Congress, APC-led government.
The state secretary of the party, Dr John Luka made this known in an interview with newsmen in Yola.
Luka noted that the performance of the party in the state in the just concluded general elections had proven that the party was on ground to put the ruling party in check.
“We are on ground to put a formidable opposition that will seat up the APC government.
“Many of those who won the election into various offices in the state under APC are just opportunists who benefitted from Buhari’s popularity; we therefore call on Adamawa people to pray for them as they look set for failure,” Luka said.
On the outcome of the state governorship election where the party candidate, Engr Markus Gundiri emerged the runner up, Luka said the party was not satisfied with the result and had set up a committee to study it before taking a final position.
Luka alleged that there were cases of irregularities and discrepancies identified by the party in some areas.
“There are cases of discrepancies and malpractices in several areas. We also have evidence of many places were Card Reader was not used,” Luka said.
He, however, lauded what he described as the generally peaceful conduct of the elections.
Luka urged the two candidates who won election under the SDP in the just concluded general elections in the state, Mr Laori Kwamoti (Numan/Demsa/Lamurde federal constituency) and Mrs Justina Obadiah (Lamurde state constituency) to be good ambassadors of the party.
