Taifa stars of Tanzania head coach, Charles Mkwasa, has disclosed his side’s dreams and plans to upset Nigeria when they clash in September.
The Super Eagles will travel to Dar es Salam, the Tanzanian capital, to prosecute their second African Cup of Nations qualifiers group game.
The Taifa Stars, who were beaten 3-0 by Egypt in their first group game in Cairo are currently seated at the rock bottom of Group G.
He disclosed “We are preparing very well for the game against Nigeria,” Mkwasa said.
“We know that the Super Eagles are one of the strongest teams in Africa but we are preparing well for them. We also know that they will be under pressure to win the match and we know that we are the underdogs despite playing at home. In football, anything can happen and because we are not under much pressure, we can spring a surprise in the match.
“Now, we are preparing very well because it is our home ground and we are looking to win the game so as to put ourselves in a good position in the group because of the defeat we suffered in Cairo,” he concluded.
Tanzania will head to Turkey to intensify preparation for the make or break Afcon qualifier against the Super Eagles who defeated Chad 2-0 in the opening game of the qualifiers for Gabon 2017.Meanwhile, coach Sunday Oliseh is expected to arrive Lagos today and by tomorrow, he will be guest of the Nigerian Stock Exchange where he is expected to perform the ‘ringing of the bell’ which is expected to showcase the business opportunities in Nigerian football” said Ademola Olajire on a NigeriaInfo FM sports programme in Abuja.
The programme anchored by Arafat Aliyu and Bunmi Haruna had callers on the programme not only lambasting the NFF for setting a very bad precedence with the approval of the appointment of Tijani Babangida as Oliseh’s special adviser. One of the callers on the programme, Mrs Grace Yaro submitted, “I sincerely do not know what is the role of Tijjani Babangida. Have the FA paid the coaches of the other national teams they are owing? This is a bad precedence they are setting. They claim they are broke yet they are bloating Oliseh’s backroom staff. Is this not the same NFF that claimed they cannot give Keshi his demand for Sylvanus Okpalla? Something is wrong.”
