cancelled Arik Air flight from Lagos is the reason Super Eagles’ trio of William Troost-Ekong, Ighalo Odion and Elderson Echiejile failed to hit the team’s camp in Uyo yesterday ahead of Saturday’s AFCON qualifier against Tanzania.
Nigerian Pilot Sports was told that the flight due to take off from the Centre of Excellence by 6.30pm was cancelled by the airline authorities at the last minute. The players are now expected to fly into Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital this morning.
Those who made it to Le Meridien Hotel camp of the team yesterday were strike ace Brown Ideye, goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, Jamiu Alimi, Musa Mohammed, Victor Osimhen and Imoh Ezekiel.
Among the players flying into Uyo today are skipper Mikel Obi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
The AFCON clash billed for Saturday inside the magnificent Godswill Akpabio International Stadium has nothing at stake for the two teams except national pride as the Pharaohs of Egypt have already clinched the group’s only ticket to Gabon 2017.
