AFCON Qualifiers: Don’t rely on foreign based players, Oguntuwase warns Rohr

As qualifiers for AFCON 2019 draws nearer ex- junior international, Jide Oguntuwase has warned the Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr against relying on foreign based players; saying they will disappoint him.

He told our correspondent yesterday that instead of the Franco- German tactician banking on foreign based players plying their trade in second and third tier leagues in Europe and Asia, he should beam his searchlight on the Local League where talented players who are ready to put in their best for the country abound.

“As the Cameroon 2019 AFCON qualifiers approaches, I want to advise the technical adviser of the Super Eagles to forget about some of the foreign based players because relying on them will be disastrous since most of them are not better than our Local League players neither do they command regular shirts in their clubs.

” Rohr should understand that some of these players ply their trade in second or third tier Leagues that are not comparable with our Local League and they will disappoint him at the end”, noted the former Sharks of Port Harcourt player.

Oguntuwase, who once laced his booths for Plateau Utd of Jos, also expressed surprise that some Nigerians are praising the Super Eagles for a good outing at the just concluded Russia 2018 World Cup and wondered why football stakeholders are afraid to tell the NFF and the technical crew the truth.

” I’ m surprised that people are praising the Super Eagles for not being disgraced at the World Cup and I want to know the criteria they are using to judge a team that could not go beyond the Group stage of the World Cup.

” People should be bold and courageous enough to tell the NFF and Rohr the truth and make them understand that such a dismal performance cannot be celebrated”, he stressed.

He reminded Rohr that Nigerians will only celebrate him and sing his praises when he is doing well and castigate him the moment he fails to deliver with an advise that with the Nations Cup qualifiers fast approaching, he should guide against those things that made the team fail in Russia.
