Former Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Godfrey Ali Gaiya has described the performance of Team Nigeria at the just concluded 11th African Games in Congo Brazzaville as a good one but added that the second placed position on the medal haul is not the expected place for us to be as a country.
Gaiya who was at the event in Congo believed Nigeria has got potentials to do more in subsequent competitions, saying that the ability to put our talents together is the key for the nation to stand tall amongst other African countries at any prestigious event like the African Games.
Hon Godfrey Gaiya said that Nigeria should take a cue from our rivals (Egypt) because they specialise in swimming events, adding that the National Sports Commission should also beef up readiness of all the sports federations to ensure that we have our specialties in sports as we look forward to the 2019 edition.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that Nigeria came second at the just concluded African games where Egypt came on top of Team Nigeria with a wide margin of medals at the event.
