All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, has been described as a ‘bad outing’ for Nigerian music stars. The event saw East African artistes winning most of the award categories. Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania was the biggest winner of the night as he took home three awards, the Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year award.
Kenyan musicians also scooped up three awards: Sauti Sol won two awards including Best African Group and Producer of the Year with Cedric Kadenyi, and M’vula scooped up the award for Best Artist in African Rock. Members of Sauti Sol celebrated their win with the evening’s biggest winner, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, who was awarded the coveted Artist of the Year.
Darey, Flavour, Adekunle Gold, Kiss Daniel, Olamide and Yemi Alade put Nigeria’s name on the award list, winning one award each. Yemi Alade won the Best Female Artiste in West Africa. The Effizy singer, who has had a standout year with her impressive form on the continent, took home the award, while fending off challenges from Seyi Shay, Niyola, Efya, Ruby Gyang, and Wiyaala.
On the male front, YBNL singer, Olamide received an award as the Best Male Artiste In West Africa, with his song, ‘Bobo’, over Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’, Sarkodie’s ‘Adonai (Remix), Flavour’s ‘Golibe’, and Davido’s ‘Fans mi’.
