The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors Forum has hailed the Supreme Court judgements upholding the elections of all its governors, describing the apex court as the saviour of democracy.
In a statement, Wednesday, after the court upheld the elections of Governors Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Okey Ikpeazu of Abia state, the Forum said the verdicts have reinforced the belief that the judiciary remains the hope of the common man.
The statement signed by Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, stated that what the apex court has done will save the country from being balkanised by the APC in its avowal to undermine the integrity of the courts and jettison the sacredness of the ballot box.
Onaiwu stressed that the PDP would continue to work to strength the country’s legal process as well as democratic norms, and congratulated the governors for their victories; confident that they will work to improve the lives of their peoplewhich the party has not failed to do over the years.
The Forum coordinator further called on states such as Edo and Ondo whose elections would hold later in the year to identify with the
PDP to reap the dividends of democracy.
Gov Wike congratulates Udom, Ikpeazu
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has described the validation of the elections of Governors Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State as the consolidation of the will of the people through the judicial process.
In a congratulatory message to the two governors after the Wednesday night affirmation of their elections, Governor Wike praised the Supreme Court for always upholding the supremacy of the rule of law in the nation’s democracy.
Wike rejoiced with his Akwa Ibom and Abia State colleagues on their deserved victories, urging them to be magnanimous by continuing to run inclusive governments in their respective states.
He particularly congratulated the people of the two states on the judgments, describing them as the ultimate victors and beneficiaries of the process because their mandates were deservedly upheld.

Supporters organise night street party in Uyo
Meanwhile, the streets of Uyo were agog with celebration on Wednesday night and Thursday morning after the Supreme Court upheld the election of Mr Udom Emmanuel as Governor of Akwa Ibom state.
Anxious supporters of the PDP, who alongside their APC counterparts had been keeping vigil side by side at the popular Ibom Plaza, went into rapturous celebration as soon as news filtered in of the judgement.
Major streets at the town centre, including Wellington Bassey Way leading to the Government House, Oron road, Aka road and Ikot Ekpene road were filled with a procession of PDP supporters who celebrated wildly.
Other supporters who stayed at home to await the judgement were soon to join them as they danced around the Ibom Plaza to the displeasure of the APC supporters who were in mournful mood after their hopes were dashed by the court ruling.
Several police patrol vans were stationed around the plaza and in other strategic parts of the town to curtail any disruption of public peace that could arise as a result of the judgement, even as residents had anticipated clashes from rival supporters.
A seven man panel of Supreme Court judges had earlier on Wednesday night set aside the judgement of the state governorship election petition tribunal and the Appeal Court which did not uphold the election of Emmanuel, following a petition by the APC governorship candidate, Mr Umana Umana.
Meanwhile the Governor has commenced a state round thank you tour to appreciate the people for their support during the period of the trial.
Government House sources told Nigerian Pilot that the tour would take the Governor to Ikot Ekpene, Eket and would be rounded up in his home town, ONNA.
Various political groups have also continued to organise rallies in support of the Governor’s victory at the court.
