Sergio Aguero fears the Argentina axe after another miserable night at international level completely contradicted his club form.
The Manchester City striker missed a penalty during his country’s 1-0 defeat by Paraguay on Tuesday night and has not found the net in six games for Argentina.
There were injury concerns about Aguero after he pulled out of training with a calf problem, but he was adamant he would play after a scan on Monday.
But afterwards Aguero admitted he would not be surprised if Edgardo Bauza dropped him for crunch World Cup qualifiers away in Brazil and at home against Colombia next month.
‘I’m not doing things right,’ the 28-year-old said. ‘If I’m not in the next squad, I’ll take it in the best way.
‘There are no excuses. Things didn’t come off for me today. We’ve got to lift our heads.’
His recent failure in front of goal for Argentina is at odds with a blistering start to life under Pep Guardiola this season, who he will link back up with on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s clash against Everton.
