The former director general of the Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT, Engineer Timasaniyu Ahmed Rufai was over the weekend installed as the Otunba Bobajiro of Usi Kingdom, in Usi town, Ekiti State.
The installation took place at the palace of the Olusi on Saturday, during this year’s edition of the Usi Day.
Describing him as a man of honour and integrity, the Olusi, Oba Adedayo George Akande, said Engr. Rufai was conferred with the honourary chieftaincy title following his” very positive and friendly disposition” to wards Usi people, further enjoining him to partner with Usi people to drive Usi interest in Abuja and beyond.
Engnr Rufai who said he was particularly happy for the conferment of the title on him, promised to use the opportunity to attract further development of Usi-Ekiti.
He said he has already commenced discussions with his partners in China to invest in the community in the area of agriculture and education, stressing that it is not enough to accept a chieftaincy title especially in faraway land and just limit your contributions to merriment.
He said the primary school which will be established, would help give quality basic education to the children of the poor in the community who ordinarily would not be able to afford such standards.
The chieftaincy title was conferred on Engnr Rufai on august 16, 2008 when he was in active service as pioneer DG of the NIGCOMSAT, but he would prefer to wait until he is no longer in office for the formal ratification of the title.
“It is necessary to emphasise that Engnr. Ahmed Rufai was conferred with this title in august 2008 when he was in active service following his very positive and friendly disposition to our people.
“But in his display of circumspection, however, he decided that while he would not want to turn down the honour done him through this recognition, he would rather wait till after he had left office before its ratification and that is what we are doing today.
“He is a man of honour and integrity and as such, we are happy to have him on the board as a honourary chief of Usi Ekiti,” the Olusi said.
The Usi Day is an annual gathering meant to celebrate network, to reunite, appraise development plans made in the last year, and to articulate goals for the future of the community.
