AKWA Ibom State government has refuted a media report purporting that the State received N17.8 billion as its share of the Statutory Allocation for the month of June. The State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon made this known to newsmen in his office yesterday. Okon described the story
published in several print and online media as misleading and fictitious. The Commissioner pointed out that a total of N559.03 billion was shared among the Federal, States, and Local Government by the Federal Account and Allocation Committee, FAAC, and not the N673,324 billion as reported in the media. He stressed that Akwa Ibom received the sum of N7.4 billion as its own share of Statutory Allocation for the month of June, shared in July, while the 31 Local Government Areas in the State got the sum of N3.3 billion. He called on journalists to always confirm their facts before publication as such were capable of creating tension in the polity and pitting the people against government.
