Akwa Ibom State Government has said that it would engage the services of technologists from Germany and India to improve the technological content of studies in its technical schools.
It has also announced plans to upgrade the Technical Schools with facilities to equip the students with requisite technological skills to drive the industries being built or revitalized by the state government.
Governor Udom Emmanuel made this known while exchanging views with members of Ibibio Peoples Union, United States Of America who called on him in Uyo recently.
Emmanuel who stated that the expatriates would also oversee the Skill Development Centres, explained that attention would be paid to the state owned technical colleges at Ikot Adaidem and Ikot Aka.
He called on Akwa Ibom people in the diaspora to maximise their exposure to the International community by attracting investment and contribute to the industrialisation drive of the present government.
He said that their wealth of experience particularly in technology would be of immense support to the industrialisation, employment generation and wealth creation agenda which his administration is vigorously pursuing to ensure that youths in the area earn a living rather than beg for it.
The Governor charged the Diasporians to use the period of their visit to enlighten the youths on the need to develop their potentials and create a means of livelihood for themselves rather than seek for the proverbial golden fleece abroad.
He expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to reposition the Health Sector for efficient Service delivery adding that the Ibom Specialist Hospital has commenced operations and providing world – class Services and expressed optimism that the Quaternary Health Institution would, through its Services checkmate Medical tourism which he noted has robbed the State and by extension, the Country of manpower as well as substantial revenue.
Earlier, the President, Ibibio Peoples Union, United States Of America, Ikpafak Edet Udofia lauded the Governor for his industrialisation programme, noting that the policy would give viability to the State economy and hasten all round development.
Udofia said the Union has selected some indigent youths for vocational Skill acquisition under a train the trainer programme to complement the efforts of the state government.
