Ten Widows from each of the 31 LGAs of Akwa Ibom State are to be sponsored on pilgrimage to Israel by the state government.
It has also increased by 65% the number of women beneficiaries in the next phase of small and medium scale business loan scheme to enable the women access more funds to do their businesses.
Governor Udom Emmanuel announced this during a solidarity rally by the women in Uyo weekend, after his victory at the Supreme Court.
Emmanuel, who announced plans to launch a Cocoa Plantation Scheme, urged the women to take advantage of the programme, assuring that government would supply the seedlings at subsidised rate to the farmers.
The governor who appreciated the level of support his administration has received from women in the state pledged to ensure that they would continue to receive tremendous attention in his government in empowerment and appointment.
Earlier, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, expressed delight at the turn out, saying she would initiate an improved engagement that would accommodate more women in government programmes.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Edet, said the women came out to celebrate the joy of the Supreme Court verdict and thanked the Governor for his vision to transform Akwa Ibom into an economic haven.
