Assistant Inspector- General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone Six, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta, has said that the command will increase its collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air force and the Department of State Services, DSS, in its fight against crime and insecurity in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
Bolanta disclosed this while speaking with newsmen at the command’s headquarters at Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, yesterday, shortly after a meeting of security stakeholders in Rivers State, made up of heads of the Army, Police, Navy, Air force, DSS as well as community leaders. He disclosed that the zonal command has increased its personnel and equipments in the two states to adequately combat insecurity.
He said: “We have observed and taken judicious notices of the states in Zone 6 Command where we are having security challenges. If you observe, in those states, we have increased the number of personnel and equipments in those states. For now, we are going to employ the whole arm of Police to make sure we have improved security. We will increase collaboration with other security agencies too.”
The AIG called for the cooperation of members of the public in the fight against crime in the zone through the provisions of useful information that will assist the Police in their job, adding that he has directed the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Hyelasinda Musa Kimo to make available to the public, dedicated phone lines that would be dialed when there are security threats.
“You can see that the meeting was with other service Commanders, Navy, Army, Air force and the Director of the State Security Service. Essentially, I came to see the security arrangements on ground and then strategize on how to boost the security of the state.
“Of course, I am satisfied with the security arrangements in the state. The CP has been doing a good job in collaboration with other agencies of the military and the DSS.
“Like I said, we need the cooperation of members of the public; that is why I directed the CP to give out dedicated phone lines so that once there is any security threat or you observe anything, you call those numbers and they will quickly respond and come to your aid,’’he stated.
