Akwa United will not play in the majestic Akwa Ibom International Stadium, the Nest of Champions, in the second round of the Nigeria league because it is “too expensive”, according to club boss.
Akwa chairman Nse Ube told AfricanFootball.com the club will host their home matches in the second round of the league at the Uyo Stadium.
“It is very expensive for us to play at the Nest of Champions, we spend as much as 3.8 million Naira to play in that stadium as need trucks of diesel as the stadium is highly computerized,” said the club boss.
“We can only play there if we get to play on the continent because then the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will subsidise our budget.”
However, the pitch and dressing room at the Uyo Township Stadium must be up to acceptable standard before Akwa United will be allowed to play there.
