CHAIRMAN, Interim Management Committee, IMC, of Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, has warned teachers in the council against peddling rumour with regards to payment of workers’ salaries so as not to create disaffection amongst management and staff.
He made the caution yesterday during a meeting with the council’s officials of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT and head teachers of all primary schools in the area.
Yakubu said that rumour peddling among the teachers and other staff was capable of negatively affecting workers productivity and fuelling crisis, adding that the council will not tolerate any form of gossip and backbiting among its workers.
He urged teachers to always confirm any information from the council before spreading such information in the interest of peace and development of the locality and state in general.
The council boss urged the teachers to be dedicated to their work and to work together for optimal productivity for socio-economic development to strive.
“I have taken an oath of office to be prudent, transparent and be accountable in the discharge of my duties in order to justify my appointment and I will not do anything that will tarnish my integrity before my people, the state and the country at large”.
Yakubu pledged to provide instructional materials to primary schools level in the area in order to improve on the standard of education in the state, tasking teachers on punctuality to work.
He used the forum to urge parents and guardians to ensure proper upbringing of their children through giving topmost priority to the education of their children, describing education as the best legacy parents should leave for their children.
Responding, the Education Secretary of the area, Mr.Cyril Gbumen commended the chairman for his good education policies in the area and called for its sustenance while assuring of teachers readiness to be up and doing in the discharge of their responsibilities.
