GOVERNOR of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has advocated for special revenue allocation to states bordering the Federal Capital Territory, FCT to take care of the influx of people from Abuja residing in the affected states.
The governor who made the call yesterday while inspecting the Mararaba Orange market bridge in Karu local government area of the state of the state, averred that the call has become necessary in view of overbearing effect of the influx on facilities in the affected states.
Al-Makura maintained that the pressure of people working in Abuja and residing in the Mararaba area of the state has over stretched facilities in the area which he said call for intervention from federal government to absorb the pressure.
He said that the much talked about joint commission of states bordering FCT should be revamped as it would go a long way to assist in cushioning the effect of the population explosion which he said never worked and needed some kind of different approach to actualize the project.
He added that the state had to use money for other sectors to develop Mararaba which is very expensive and unbearable.
Also speaking, the state commissioner for works Godwin Makeri said that the bridge project was 95 percent completion and had so far gulped about N350 million and that it would be commissioned in the next one month.
