A 20-year-old unemployed man, Abdullahi Yahaya, who allegedly stole a motorcycle valued at N120,000, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Yahaya, a resident of Agege area of Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offence on April 1 at Cemetery Road, Ipaja, Lagos.

He said the accused stole a motorcycle valued at N120,000 property of Mr Adamu Inusa, parked in his compound.

“The complainant parked his motorcycle in his compound after he came back from work and the following morning he could not find it.”

Okuoimose said that the accused was seen using the motorcycle for commercial purposes and was immediately arrested.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years jail term for offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mr Dan Oni, adjourned the case until May 11 for mention.
