The National Working Committee of the PDP said its decision to fix the Ward, Local Government and State Congresses in Anambra state this week was in obedience of a court’s directive.

This is contained in a statement signed by the PDP National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Oladipo, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.

It stated that the clarification became important following enquiries by the party’s members, especially those in Anambra State.

The NWC assured that machinery had been put in place to ensure transparent, credible, free and fair processes at all levels of the exercise in the state in line with its commitment to internal democracy.

“The NWC believes that the congresses would help to strengthen PDP structures in the state and pave the way for the final retake of Anambra State by our great party in the next gubernatorial election’’, it stated.

It assured all aspirants that directives had been given to those concerned to issue nomination forms to them even during the holidays upon payment of cash to the appropriate quarters.

It enjoined all PDP members in the state and all stakeholders to work together to ensure that atmosphere conducive was created for hitch-free congresses.

It added that the party would not hesitate to apply the law for any violation of its Constitution.

“The national leadership solicits the cooperation and understanding of relevant stakeholders, particularly the security agencies, to ensure smooth conduct of the congresses at the ward, local and state levels’’, it said. (NAN)
