Anambra State will soon start the establishment of $150 million worth of automobile assembly plant that will produce caterpillar among others by Richbon Group, in partnership with the Anambra State government.
The project site is located at Ozubulu-Eziora boundary in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the stakeholders meeting yesterday, the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Barrister Stella Onuora expressed her appreciation with the members of the community for the keenness to provide land for development, stressing that the project would benefit the youths immensely.
Onuora disclosed that the state government did not collect any money for the project, but encouraged partnering investors through its equity contribution in form of the free Certificate of Occupancy granted in respect of the land and creation of access road to the project site.
Earlier, the managing director of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, Chief Joe-Billy Ekwunife said the team visited on the directive of the state governor to urge the community, especially its youths, to cooperate with the investors in order to commence work immediately on the $150million scalable automobile project for caterpillar manufacturing.
Ekwunife pointed out that the community would get five percent of the investment cost, in addition to 35 percent out of 70 percent of direct and indirect job opportunities that would be created therefrom.
Contributing, the chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Council, Chief Jude Mbaegbu equally expressed gladness that the actualisation of the project was being witnessed under the honest and purposeful leadership of Governor Willie Obiano, adding that the project had long term infrastructural, economic and job benefits for the youths, state and Nigeria.
In his speech, the traditional ruler of Ozubulu, Igwe Oruche said his community had always been desirous of providing land for infrastructural and human development, but lamented that failure of the past administrations to actualise such projects has made the youths to suffer due to joblessness.
