Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, has commended the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN and the International Federation of Accountants, IFAC, for the synergy in advancing the accounting profession.
According to a statement, Idris gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to his office by officials of IFAC and ANAN Council members led by the association’s President, Mr. Anthony Nzom Idris, said his office was out to promote accounting practice and public financial management as well as transparency.
He said the commitment of his office to a workshop organised by both ANAN and IFAC remained unshaken.
A former president of ANAN, Mrs. Maryam Ladi-Ibrahim, said she was proud to have IFAC members in Nigeria to tell them the struggles the association went through.
According to her, ANAN, IFAC and the Office of the AGF would collaborate to advance the Science of Accounting.
A member of ANAN, Prof. Benjamin Osisioma, said ANAN was charting a new course in Public Financial Management.
“We are proud that at a critical stage like this, people like IFAC are here,” Osisioma said.
Chief Operating Officer of IFAC, Ms Alta Prinsloo, commended ANAN members for their good works, adding that she had not seen what she saw here anywhere in the world.
The Federal Government is targeting the proposed implementation of the IPSAS to revamp the accounting profession and reporting of governments’ financial transactions.
IPSAS are a set of accounting standards issued by the IPSAS Board for use by public sector entities around the world in preparation of financial statements.
