Six people were reportedly killed in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital yesterday, when an explosion rocked the city.
According to reports, the thunderous blast exploded on the popular Baga Road area of Maiduguri about 5:30 pm yesterday.
A civilian vigilante assisting the military against Boko Haram and a witness told AFP that, “We have so far recovered six dead bodies. We are still working at the scene, so the casualties may rise,” said Danlami Ajaokuta of the blast on the city’s Baga Road.
The witness who was at the area said, “It occurred very close to one Maikore Oil filling station here in Baga Road. I can’t give any detail because we are all running as soldiers near the area are busy shooting in the air. But the spot at which it occurred was usually very crowded.”
The blast followed a series of bomb and grenade attacks launched by suspected Boko Haram militants in Maiduguri since last Friday when Muhammadu Buhari took over as Nigerian president.
On Tuesday, dozens were killed at an abattoir in an attack by a suicide bomber.
