A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang has condemned the call by the All Progressives Congress, APC for the cancellation of the last governorship election results in the state, describing them as bad losers.
The APC governorship candidate in the state, Mr Umana Umana had on Saturday called for the cancellation of polls in the state alleging massive rigging by the PDP.
Inyang who is also the chairman of Board of Trustees of Transformation Initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People, TIEIP told newsmen yesterday in Uyo that the APC’s call was mischievous and an attempt to deceive the outside world to think that the elections in the state were not free and fair.
“Look at President Goodluck Jonathan, he even called the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him even before the final results were announced but if you look at all the states that APC had lost, it has been their strategy to call for cancellation of result.
“In Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta they are calling for the cancellation of the result because they lost but in Lagos where the gap was even small despite all they did to win the election the PDP candidate conceded defeat and has allowed peace to reign in Lagos.
“They should also just as our dear President and other PDP candidates did in places they lost allow peace to reign in Akwa Ibom. Look at the millions of people that marched through the streets of Uyo to celebrate the PDP’s victory, can you compare that with a few touts that went about burning tyres around INEC office.
“They should allow the winner of the guber polls, Mr Udom Emmanule to settle down and plan how to run the next government in Akwa Ibom for the good of our people,” he explained.
He called on APC candidates that lost elections nationwide to emulate President Jonathan who conceded defeat to ensure that peace remains in the body politics of the country.
On insinuations that outgoing Governor Godswill Akpabio would influence the administration of the governor-elect, Inyang described it as rumour being peddled by mischief makers to cause frictions between the governor and the governor- elect.
He said that the new governor would ensure that all projects, which could not be completed by the present government occasioned by dwindling revenue would be completed.
“These are projects you cannot abandon because they remain key to the social and economic transformation of the state. So is it the Specialist Hosptal, Uyo-Ikot Ekpene dualization project, the Ikot Ekpene Sheraton, the Tropicana that you will abandone.?
“These are key projects that no sensible administration should abandon for whatever reason and for Udom Emmanuel, these projects are also key for the continuation of the uncommon transformation in the state,” the chairman maintained.
